The Praetoriate's
The System

The Praetoriates are the local law enforcement on Mars. The Praetoriates role-play, is to provide an experience unlike many others in the SL community. Police departments in SecondLife are often referred to as the largest of groups, and rightfully so. This has created an image of police department void of corruption, but we realize that many role-players enjoy this type of role-play. So we are changing it up a bit, instead of sugar we are adding spice.
This section, is completely OOC, but designed to help you realize the balance we wish to keep in the Praetoriates, and explain the opportunities that exist.

The Corrupt Praetoriate

This is the Praet in everyday life within the empire, shaking it down with all the colors and only pretending to kiss ass for the moment so they can have bigger fish to fry later. Praets don’t break the laws, they are the law. Ontop of what is normal law for the Empire. Normal activity happens in the middle of the street and in view of witnesses. The Praets will always back up their own against claims of corruption in the department, but in reality, it’s the high level officers that enforce how corrupt the Praets can get and how much the department will suffer for it.. If at all?
Just remember, that being corrupt all the time will have IC ramifications. Certain colors may hide from you, or instantly turn away as you near. It can be fun role-play regardless just remember to be true to your character and go with the flow.

The Honest Praetoriate

When you think of an honest Praet, you think the type stands by and is more hands off on the shake downs, helping colors, and enforcing the laws of the Empire. But in reality, how clean can a Praet be when the department you are in is corrupt? It takes work to be honest and clean in a system where it’s easy and expected to be the meanest and baddest.
Maybe you can..
- Choose to dismiss a charge rather than arrest, especially on very small charges
- May choose to give informants a head's up to a raid to keep their trust
- Leave certain pieces of information out of incident reports to protect someone
- Harass a suspect on trumped up charges to try and gain information
Playing an honest Praet takes time, you have to network. Ultimately, we will want some honest Praets. It fosters role-play in the city, in the group, and is a win-win for all parties involved.
If you feel your attempts at being an efficient honest Praet are being meta-gamed by the corrupt ones, seek out the Chief, Captain or one of the Lieutenants OOC. We will do what we can to help you out!
